Sulfur cinquefoil

Potentilla recta

USDA Agricultural Research Service , USDA Agricultural Research Service, Bugwood.org

Steve Dewey, Utah State University, Bugwood.org

A perennial that grows 1-2 feet tall with a single taproot, this plant is a native of Eurasia. Flowers are pale yellow with 5 petals arranged in a heart shape. The leaves have 5 to 7 leaflets with toothed edges and appear greenish underneath which distinguishes it from other cinquefoils (most are silver underneath).

It commonly grows in disturbed areas such as along roadsides, waste areas and abandoned fields. In Garfield County it has only been reported in South Canyon.
