Child welfare review
The Garfield County Department of Human Services volunteered for a federal review of its child welfare practices. Of 17 cases reviewed in Garfield County, nine received a 100 percent strength rating on every criteria level.

Election ballots mailed out
Ballots for the Nov. 7, 2017 Coordinated Election were mailed Monday, October 16. Voters can view sample ballots, register to vote, and confirm registration information on the elections web page.

A nationwide Yellow Fever vaccine shortage is expected to last until mid-2018. Garfield County Public Health has exhausted its yellow fever vaccine supply. Travelers needing vaccines must go to Denver.

Garfield County Public Health walk-in flu clinics are underway, Rifle to Carbondale October 17, 25, 27, and November 4. No appointment needed, and costs are $15 - children, $25 - adults, $45 - high-dose for age 65+.

Garfield County has unveiled its 2018 proposed budget. The $105.7 million budget is up $344,000 from the 2017 adopted budget, and reflects a drop in revenues due to a decline in oil and gas production.

Garfield County Community Development now offers online applications for signage, reroofing, and demolition permits, administrative reviews, minor subdivisions, and final plat amendments.

E-waste pickups are suspended currently, but will resume in February at the Glenwood Springs Road Bridge location on Highway 82. Alternative drop-off sites are South Canyon Landfill or the Garfield County Landfill near Rifle.

Road and Bridge road restrictions

Semis and other oversized commercial vehicles are barred from traveling over roads that lead to Cottonwood Pass, and in the Four Mile area near Glenwood Springs. New signage is in place alerting drivers to these restrictions.
